When Lucy walks out of a frozen forest, wearing only a silk dress and sandals, she isn’t sure how she got there. But when she sees Colin, she knows for sure that she’s here for him.
Colin has never been captivated by a girl the way he is by Lucy. With each passing day their lives intertwine, and even as Lucy begins to remember more of her life—and her death—neither of them is willing to give up what they have, no matter how impossible it is. And when Colin finds a way to physically be with Lucy, taking himself to the brink of death where his reality and Lucy’s overlap, the joy of being together for those brief stolen moments drowns out everything in the outside world. But some lines weren’t meant to be crossed…
A most unorthodox love story of Lucy, a girl who suddenly wakes up without any memory of who she is or why she is tied to Saint Osana's prep school. Lucy is what is known as " a walker" (or ghost) to the faculty and students of Saint Osana's. Not the typical ghost, she can be seen and even has a reflection.
When she sees Colin in the school cafeteria, a local adrenaline chaser, who survived a tragic accident leaving him an orphan as a young boy. He's careless with his safety and usually finds distractions with girls and the risky stunts he pulls with his best friend Jay. When Colin asks Lucy if she's there for breakfast, she surprises them both when Lucy proclaims rather boldly that she's there for him. She feels this unbelievable pull towards him and thinks that he may be the biggest clue as to why she's here.
As the two get to know each other they begin to explore their feelings and Colin can see that she's different, but he can't quite figure out what it is. He begins to clue into her identity, when he sees her differently than everyone else. His best friend sees a brunette and his god father sees a demon, but he just sees the beautiful sweet blonde haired, swirling dark eyed Lucy. He falls for her fast and decides that he would go to great lengths just to feel her skin on his. No matter what the risk is and with his daredevil nature, he acts as if he's invincible.
On her way to self discovery, she learns more about the walkers, good and bad. As their journey continues, Lucy slowly learns more about her past and meets others like her along the way. With good intentions she wants to keep exploring her pull to Colin as their love grows, but Colin keeps risking his welfare and selfishly she loves the fact that he can be with her.
Lucy is a complex character, at times I feel sorry for her and at times I'd like to slap some sense into her. In typical teenage fashion of placing feelings first and consequences later they both learn a serious lesson. Colin by no means is innocent in this exploration of the worlds in between, but sometimes it seems like he's taking all the risks.
Great supporting characters and eerie feel to the story, have you on the edge of your seat.
Christina Lauren stories never disappoint even though this is darker than what I'm used to reading from the author. Well written and the narrators were well spoken. Elizabeth Louise gave Lucy's voice a sweet, but eerie feel to it and Cal gave Colin vulnerability when needed, but captured his "don't give a crap attitude"!
I enjoyed the read. Perfect read for Halloween!
