After a collapse in the caverns, Rosamunde is long believed dead by her family and shipmates. It has been many months since the collapse and no one has heard from her. However, while she does not quite live, she is not dead either. Instead she slumbers in the realm of the Fey, where a fairy who has long despised Rosamunde has captured her and holds her fate in her hands. When playing for high stakes with the fairy king, Rosamunde is wagered in the bet. If captured by the fairy king, she will never again be able to return to the land of humans.
Padraig has been crushed since his beloved shipmate and best friend Rosamunde was lost in the caverns. He had not had the opportunity to fully reveal his heart to her and now she is lost to him forever. After many years spent side by side battling opponents of all forms and sailing the open sea, Padraig is at a loss without his lady. When a fairy queen comes to propose a deal, her offer seems too unreal to believe. Could it have been just a dream? Now he will need to risk all to enter a world he doesn't quite believe in to save the only woman he's ever loved.
The Ballad of Rosamunde is an enchanting short story of friendship and the distance one would go for love. It's always exciting to hear more of the characters in this series, and this book while brief, was enjoyable.
Saskia Maarleveld does a great job narrating, as she has for the rest of this series.
