Contains mature themes.
Jeremy Keane is an American with some odd peculiarities, a reputed rake, and an artist of growing admiration among the English. He excels in painting works that show the struggles with life instead of just roses and puppies. He avoids painting portraits of debutantes at all costs, until he meets Yvette.
Lady Yvette Barlow stuns him at a wedding and he knows instantly that he's found his muse and the subject of his next work. He's been searching for just the right woman and upon seeing the tall Yvette with her striking green eyes and dark locks, he just knows he must paint her. How to get her to agree will be the tricky part.
When Jeremy strikes up a conversation with Yvette's brother, they realize they have something in common - younger sisters that they both want to marry off. In order to get to spend more time with the enchanting woman, Jeremy agrees to paint her portrait in the hopes of securing her agreement to allow him to paint something entirely different in secret. While her beauty was clear, but Jeremy didn't expect was the quick witted charm, warmth, and charisma that the lady exudes. Once he starts painting her, he quickly becomes even more entranced.
Yvette has yet to find a man to capture her interest and who isn't a rake hell. After a horrible experience with a past suitor, she's leery to follow her heart. However, something about Jeremy intrigues her. Despite his reputation as a rogue, there appears to be more to him than meets the eye. Their secret painting sessions leave her heart racing and her yearning for more from the man that seems so distant. She will also require his help on a secret project of her own, but she's unwilling to give up her secrets until he shares some of his.
The Art of Sinning is romantic, fun, steamy, and a classic example of why Sabrina Jeffries is such a well-known and well loved author! This was a fun read from start to finish. The chemistry between the characters was evident right from the start and the side characters added charm. A great read for anyone who loves historical romance.
I listened to the audio version. The narration was well done, although Jeremy did sound a bit too stuffy throughout the reading. The reading was clear and well paced. Overall a good novel in paper or audio form.
