I've spent my entire life under my father’s thumb, but now I'm finally free to make my own choices. When my roommate dragged me to my first college party, I met Finn Coram and my life turned inside out. He knows how to break the rules and is everything I never knew I wanted. A Marine by day and surfer by night, he pushes me away even as our attraction brings us closer. Now I am finally free to do whatever I want. I know what I want. I choose Finn.
Trying to play by the rules...
I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She's a rule I know I shouldn't break, but damn if I don’t inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I’m ready to step out of line. And even worse? I’m living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case…
The truth will cost me everything.
Carrie is finally out from under her father’s thumb, or so she hopes! As the daughter of a high profile politician, Carrie is followed everywhere. There are bodyguards who even watch the girl sleep (that’s a bit weird!). She’s finally old enough to go to college and she’s begged her over protective parents to give her some space.
Within a few days of arriving she meets a sexy surfer dude& marine Finn. He’s handsome, athletic, protective, sweet, and she just can’t get enough of him. The only problem… she has no idea he’s an undercover agent for her father!
Finn’s not looking forward to the assignment of protecting a little famous rich girl for the Senator. She’s probably spoiled and stuck up. He’ll get through this assignment and then hopefully move up in the private security business. However upon meeting Carrie he realizes he’s in way over his head as she continues to surprise him with her kindness, compassion, and sweetness. The biggest danger now will not be keeping her safe, but protecting his heart.
The narration for the story is excellent. Both Nelson Hobbs, who narrates Finn, and Aletha George, who narrates Carrie, are outstanding! The audio is easy to listen to, flows smoothly, and perfectly represents the characters.
The story while enjoyable, lacks some depth. The writing is good, but some of the decisions the characters make seem a bit stretched. There are also a few too many instances where Carrie needs saving. The emotions move fast in this novel without a lot of time passing between meeting and things getting more intense. The story is steamy and reminiscent of a first time college love which is well done by the author. The ending also seemed a bit abrupt and left me wanting more. Overall a fun read with a good plot which had the potential to be even greater.
