Zoe Marshall has been in love with Gage forever, and has saved herself for him alone. Now, after careful planning and a bit of luck, she finally has the chance to show him she's all grown-up and ready to be his. Gage believes himself too old and jaded for an innocent like Zoe, but she is relentless in her innocent seduction, and soon his resistance crumbles. But as their love blooms, reality tackles their dreams. And in the aftermath, the choices they face will strain the bonds of friendship and family. Perhaps beyond repair.
Wow, wow, and wow! This is what erotica should be.
In this third book in the New York series, Gage finds himself in New York on business. He spends his free time looking for a suitable slave to satisfy his needs as a Dom. His plans are derailed when young Zoe comes to stay with him. Zoe is the baby sister of Gage’s best friend and has loved Gage her whole life. She has saved her virginity for him, she just has to convince Gage that she’s the right woman for him. After Gage gives in to the temptations she offers, they also have to convince her family that he won’t hurt her either physically or emotionally. In the end, it’s both Gage and Zoe that are changed by their love.
I don’t usually like books with virginal heroines, but Ms. Reese handled Gage’s and Zoe’s relationship so well that I couldn't find anything to criticize! Gage and Zoe challenged each other to be more and to become more, not just in terms of the bedroom but in other aspects of their lives as well. The sex is HOT! But Ms. Reese doesn't let that detract from the emotional side of Gage’s and Zoe’s relationship. They have the perfect fairy-tale ending, and I wouldn't have wanted to change a thing.
I haven’t read the previous books in the New York series, so I was concerned at first about being able to follow the story. I didn’t need to worry. “Innocence Defied” can be read as a stand-alone book. I did have a bit of a hard time trying to keep the relationships between the secondary characters straight. Zoe has a big family with some complex pairings going on. However, this complexity did not detract from my enjoyment of the book in any way.
Ms. Reese knows her stuff. She uses the BDSM scene jargon exactly right, and she also understands the psychological makeup of BDSM participants. It was refreshing to see these things done correctly and to see them embedded in such excellent writing.
Narrator Christian Fox voiced the perfect Gage. That Southern drawl is enough to make a woman swoon. In addition, he had enough range to voice all the characters, even the women, without them sounding alike. I had no problems figuring out who was speaking.
I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
