A loving mother and wife, Annie O'Neill was the heart of the small community of Kiss River. But her generous nature hid a darker side that remained secret for years after her tragic death.
Lacey
When Lacey O'Neill finally learns the shattering truth about the mother she's spent a decade emulating, the foundation of her life begins to crumble. Then her close childhood friend dies, leaving her teenage daughter, Mackenzie, in Lacey's care, and Lacey unwillingly finds herself in the role of mother.
Mackenzie
Uprooted by her mother's death, Mackenzie resents her new home of Kiss River. She wants nothing to do with the father who never knew she existed - and especially not her mother's oldest friend. But the person who could understand her best might be the one she resents most: Lacey.
Diane Chamberlain creates another beautiful masterpiece with Her Mother's Shadow. This story centers around Lacey O'Neill, now grown up, as she still struggles to cope with her mother's death and legacy and how those experiences in her youth have shaped her life. Her mother's killer is coming up on parole, and the O'Neills will need to work together to write victims statements if they hope to keep the murderer behind bars. Lacy is forced to revisit some very painful memories in her past, and in the midst of that emotional turmoil, she learns that one of her best friends has died and left her daughter in Lacy's care. Who else can understand the loss of a mother quite like Lacy?
With the young girls paternity in question, Lacy will need to make a very tough decision to contact a man from her past who can potentially be the young girl's father. The bad boy that both Lacy and her friend Jessica were close with as teenagers has only grown more irresistible as an adult and it will take all of Lacy's will power not to resist that temptation.
When a nice guy that Lacy's not at that attracted to comes along, she will try to have her heart follow her mind and fall in love with the safe, handsome Rick instead of the tattooed, dangerous bad boy from her past.
What follows is an exciting, well written glimpse into affairs of the heart where past secrets burn strong and all is not as it seems.
Her Mother's Shadow is an excellent book in the Kiss River series. While this book can be read as a stand alone novel, it flows much better for those who've read the earlier books in this series.
I listened to the audio version narrated by Arielle DeLisle. Her narration is excellent with smooth flow and clear pronunciation. She excels in both the narration and the dialogue. This novel is great for road trips and I highly recommend Diane Chamberlain's stories for anyone who loves romance or drama.
