Harper Slone did it again! She created a story that took me on an emotional rollercoaster and left me wanting more! 5 stars for Beck, a seamless addition to the Corps Security Series. Dee and John’s story is the third in the series, and can be read as a stand-alone novel.
Dee is a broken woman with her mask firmly in place. She wants to be seen as independent and strong, the kind of woman who doesn’t need a man to define her. She knows all men are untrustworthy and she will not fall for the lies of any of man! Stubborn is not even a strong enough word to describe Dee, so when Beck decides Dee is the woman for him, he has his work cut out for him. Dee wants nothing to do with the type of relationship Beck is hoping for, but when her carefully placed mask begins to slip, Beck truly sees the real Dee and he will stop at nothing to support the woman he loves and to make her his.
I adore John Beckett. He is strong, determined, patent, caring, sweet, and all around a great catch for any woman. He fits the Corps Security team perfectly! He is a super sexy alpha male and he gives Axel and Cage a run for their money.
Dee is one carefully scalped woman. A supportive friend, a smart business woman, a beautiful woman others want to be around, so I was blown away with the dark secrets she has been struggling with. I became entranced in her story, and could not put it down.
John and Dee together are like fire and ice, when you put them together they create some of the steamiest sex scenes ever! Wildly hot and out of control they lit the pages on fire, only to be extinguished by the ice cold of Dee’s past. An absolute most read!
Told in duel point of view, Sean Crisden and Abby Craden narrated for Dee and John. Sean has a super deep sexy voice. His words are clear and he is easy to listen to. He understands how to bring a character to life, and expresses each emotion the character feels through his words. However, while I did enjoy him narrating for John I liked him better as Cage. It might be I listened to Cage first and might be a bit biased ;). Dee is narrated by Abby. Abby has a great voice. She is easy to listen to, and brings the character out through her words. She did a good job with Dee, and all the different emotions Dee goes through in the story. While I enjoyed Abby as Dee, I really did not like the way she narrated John in Dee’s POV. She gave him a southern accent that is remarkably different from Sean’s, I wished Abby and Sean would have been on the same page in regards to John. Nevertheless, Beck is a good audio book.
Harper Slone understands the need for detail in her stories and in her characters. She has a way of making her characters come to life, and keeping her readers glued to the story. She made me laugh, cry, smile, and she made me feel each emotion with every character. I am hooked on the author and the Corps Security team. I highly recommend this series.
